Re: seam roller
12" diameter is quite the curve! My wire bends naturally to about a 32" diameter once a segment is cut from the coil. It seems there are different types of piano wire with different characteristics. For example, the wire from Wes resists kinking and bending better than the wire I bought he...

Re: racing line accidents
I use a text editor to create tracks and Google Chrome to display the tracks. I'm using SVG, which is an industry standard way to include drawings on a web page. I'm not using a drawing program to draw tracks with a mouse. I am a computer programmer and I wanted to learn about SVG. It's very similar...

lane change exit wire spacing
I've been trying experiments with different lane change setups. On my first two tracks, the lane changes had exactly 2mm between the exit wires. The lane changes work well, but not every time. I found that making the gap closer to 1mm makes the lane change work every time. What are the drawbacks? la...

seam roller
I found a useful tool for getting the wire flush with the surface of the track. I tried various tools for pressing the wire in the Dremel groove, but this seam roller worked best for me. The roller is 2" wide and made of steel (used by roofers for rolling seams). It presses the wire into the gr...

Welcome Christian! I started just three months ago. This forum has great information and supportive members. Everyone who has tried MAGracing on my little tracks has enjoyed it, so I think it will continue to be interesting and fun for me.

chisel plane
I'm almost done my second track, using the Keld/Dremel method for the first time. I was worried about getting the depth right for the lane change plates, until I found a nice little tool for the job. It's called a chisel plane and holds a chisel in a cast frame at a constant angle and depth. I used ...

Re: racing line accidents
I managed to squeeze the same idea into an 8' track by skewing the corners. The racing line turns have a consistent radius of 32cm. Inside and outside lanes have a smaller radius in the first half than the second half. All lane changes are required to maintain the racing line. Lane change collisions...

racing line accidents
The racing lines on my current track start and finish in the outside lane. When a car is closely following another car and the first car misses the racing line, the two cars often come out of the turn side by side, sending the outside car off the track. The simplest solution is to make the outside l...
