Lurking in Central Indiana, USA

Post by davidwp »

Hi,

It is good to see that a forum has been started about MAGracing. I have been involved in many hobbies over the years, including several that are related to what I call, generically, 'magnetically guided steering' or mag steer. Those hobbies include slot cars, r/c cars and model building. It is, however, my model railroading hobby that got me interested in mag steer.

After discovering the HO Faller Car System many years ago, I decided to see if I could scale the concept up to work on a 1:24 module that I planned to build for our garden railroad club's modular display. The result is HERE. It became one more hobby requiring a big investment in time that some unexpected circumstances didn't allow.

Then I saw videos that Wes began posting on YouTube and decided to watch what you folks are up to and see which direction I might go. Thanks to all involved for your time and effort. And if anyone in central Indiana, USA is building a track, I would like to hear from you.

Hi,

I recently found this YouTube video about 1:25 scale mag steer vehicles: http://youtu.be/ctoH3XureMg

It is in the miniature city of Madurodam in Holland. The vehicles run very well on bumpy streets, very impressive. Have any of our European friends ever been there? Do you know anything about the technical details of how the vehicles and guidance system are built? Do you know where I might find more information? This is a system that I mentioned in my original post that I would like to build for my garden railroad.

Thanks,
David

Thanks, Keld. I sent Madurodam an email today asking about details for the roads and cars. I'll let you know what I hear.

By the way, here is another 1:24 car at Madurodam. It certainly does run smoothly but am surprised that it looks so worn??? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIn4yJ0mPBY
