How to Make Road Signs

Post by Ned »

My track is not modeled after a dedicated race track but instead is modeled after a windy 2-lane road through a canyon, a few mile north of where I live. Consequently, I needed road signs.
Based on my experience, here is one way to do it.
1. Online, find images of the signs you want.
2. Copy these images to a document file.
3. Print the page, containing several road sign images, in color on photographic paper.
4. Apply 5mil adhesive backed clear plastic film to both sides of photo paper to stiffen and protect the image.

5. Cut out the images precisely.
6. Using thick Krazy Glue (CA glue) or 2-part epoxy glue, attach sign to a 080” (2mm) dia painted steel post.
7. If needed for protection from rain and sun, apply 2 coats of Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear LeakSeal Flexible Rubber Coating by dipping, after glue is cured. Let dry one hour between coats.
8. Install post of sign in hole in your track so that bottom edge of sign is about 2.5” (64mm) above road surface.
