Re: Modular tracks
Hi Lasp, Double Naught,
Thinking about track dimensions for the mass market, people are happy to buy a large set from a slot manufacturer which come in large boxes. For example below:
The "Extreme GT" Box size 92 length x 46 width x 14 cm height
So track sections 100cm x 50cm would be ok and not cause people to walk past a set - would these be big enough? A box 14cm deep would fit a lot of track sections.
It's hard not having any cars as I can't experiment for myself at the moment, that and we just moved countries so my workshop isn't set up yet.

Re: Modular tracks
The bricks /sheet I have today is 50cm x 70 cm and seens to bee to small.
I want quiet bigger, have to go out and test in the car.
Coming back soon.

Re: Modular tracks
Now I am back.
Its looks like a sheet of 80 cm x 120 cm will be very good.
The weight of each will be less then 2 Kg inkluding wire and barrierfoam.
Thats mean thath you can build a track based on 80, 120, 160, 200 and 240 cm in width!
and with only four (4) sheets it can be 160 x 240 cm in less than 10 Kg and building less than 10 cm thick as a package.
So please, be creative and give me a nice trackplan för this sheets!
I need to test som bridge building also.
My Carrera Long Race has a weigth of ower 11 Kg

Re: Modular tracks
160x240 is a bit short, I will prefer 80x480 then you can have a nice straight, I have too much work today, but I have some Ideas for a track plan.
The plate is it possible to use both sides, so you can have 2 different tracks on them?
coming back tomorrow

Re: Modular tracks
Hi Keld,
I am just experimenting with board sizes to see what might work I am sure there is an easy solution to a modular track that might suit the people that dont want/cant make their own.
Will keep working on this as I am sure the answer is staring us in the face, and hopefully can come up with something for you to try.
Cheers

Re: Modular tracks
On the topic of size, would it make sense for the track pieces to fit in a closet or a car like Lasp said? One thing that had been mentioned before was to standardize with all of your friends so you get together to make a huge track race outside or at large venue. The other thing I thought of would be to place a small track on a coffee table and lounge race from the couch.

Re: Modular tracks
If I use 800 x 1200mm in plate /brick size I can make an layout with the smaller together building up a long strait.
But I can also terminate with a 800 x 1200 in 90 degree.
So for this reason, its important to mark out where the wires have to contact each other. even if I lay and L shape
If I take the Luf Track (the new one) and cut it up in length it will be nice.
As Keld says, I can use the other side for an alternativ layout. But then I have too found another solutions for my foambarriers.
Mayby the could be hooked on the board out at the edge!
Is it wise to make two 400 x 1200 strips just for extend the straights?
Most important Should it always be two lines of wire (at least) with 100mm between them.

Re: Modular tracks
I'm sure it would work Lasp, the only thing I can think of is with reverse on the cars it's nice have room to back up.

Re: Modular tracks
How about pocket screws to join the pieces. I would use hardwood because these ones are pine and they split. They are easy to use and are adjustable for tension. I used the guard rail foam to cushion the wood.

Looks nice
Absolutely a good start . Big Modules then
Wath is the dimension! And the radie in the closed corner?
