Any actual MagRacing in the UK?

Post by Trevor Allen »

I have decided to stick my toe in the water, and at this time I am now starting to build my first track. I live in a small town in North Notts, Shirebrook, and am interested in this as a competitive racing hobby. I also have a few others with like minds, who are also interested.

Obviously we can enter into a small club setup ourselves, but I would like to find other groups around the UK so that we can gain more competition throughout the country. As a wargamer (with a fairly competitive history), I see this as an outlet for great competition.

Initially I will be looking at a few individual meetings, but would like to work up to a series, hosted by several clubs/groups around the UK. In the future this could be extended across Europe, and who knows also the States!

At this time though I am looking for other enthusiasts in the UK to start putting some sort of events together. My track is only just beginning, but will be a 12' x 6' layout in a modular format (6 No 4' x 3' boards). The layout has been designed and I expect to have wire laid over the next 2-3 weeks. Beyond that I am waiting for my first 4 cars and transmitters from Wes, and in the meantime look forward to an occasional trip to MagRacing's home in Newton Linford.

This could be an opportunity for more of us to get together to form a 'National Racing Club', as I am certain that most MagRacing users actually want to race their cars against other enthusiasts. I couldn't find a suitable category on the forum to post this, but hopefully interested people will find this!

Are there any links between clubs in the UK already, and if so where?

I am prepared to help with organising this, if there is a group of people to organise it for.

Trev, I'd be interested in racing but I'm located 7 time zones west of you in AZ, USA. If you're ever over this way, bring your cars and we can race on my 20' x 17' outdoor layout.

Thanks for the offer.

I'm more than a little surprised. People build this, but don't seem to race!

Am I missing something?
When my track is up, I already have a fairly healthy number of relatively locals (friends and family), within 60 miles that are interested, so at least I know I'll be ok. But where is everyone else?

hi trevor. i had the same problem, to get 4 guys at the same time to race. we have to show it to the other people, who dont know about. i am building a transportable track to go in malls or on public partys (firemans party and such things)to get a great audience. it took a few weeks to to find a ,,crew,,. problem is that in the moment are no cars avaible,i know 10 to15 guys who wants to buy minimum one car. hope that wes get back in buissnes soon .

Tell me as soon as you have the stock come in Wes. Probably upping the car and transmitter order to 6.....possibly more chassis but unlikely to need more transmitters.

Then I can start to promote some local events.......throughout the summer! I will be expecting your presence as well Wes!!!! :)
